Harold Leroy Passenger, Jr., “Mr. P” – husband, father, teacher, and coach peacefully went to the Lord on Thursday August 31, 2017, after a long struggle with Lewy Body Dementia. His wife and daughters were by his bedside. Harold was born on December 4, 1938 in Warren, PA. He graduated from Grove City College and moved to Hershey, PA to become an English teacher. During his career, he taught at Milton Hershey High School, Camp Hill, and Hershey Junior High. He loved sports and spent many years coaching boys’ basketball, and sharing his love of golf and running with students and family members. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and family, especially to Myrtle Beach, SC. After retirement from Hershey Schools, Harold worked for Hershey Entertainment and Resort Company at the Hershey Lodge as a concierge and guest chauffeur, where he continued to teach – sharing the history of Hershey with visitors. Harold married Ann (Garrison) Passenger on July 2, 1966 and celebrated 51 years of marriage in 2017. Harold and Ann were active members of Palm Lutheran Church, until they re-located to Columbus, OH in July 2014 to be near family and receive care as his days became more difficult.
Harold is survived by his wife Ann Passenger and daughters Dorianne (John) Deitrick and Tiffany Spurlock, sisters Joyce (Jim) Maxwell and Anita (Joseph) Choate, nephews and niece Scott (Candace) Maxwell, Michele (Larry) Reuss, and Travis Guymon, grandchildren Tyler Spurlock, Abigail Deitrick, and Meghan Deitrick, and Tiffany’s fiancé Jay Beyke and his children Leah and Alex Beyke. He joins his parents Harold and Rose Passenger, grandson Braden Spurlock, and many beloved family members, friends, and pets in heaven.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Palm Lutheran Church at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Capital City Hospice, 2800 Corporate Exchange Dr Suite 170, Columbus, OH 43231.
