Amber Lea West, age 33, died on Saturday March 24 2018 in Mansfield Ohio. From her birth in Marion, OH on June 2, 1984 until her passing, she nourished people around her with love, music and her joyful spirit. Amber was born to Joann Staats into a large extended family in the Marion/Galion Ohio area. She spent her early childhood with her brother Sam and many cousins, aunts, uncles and her grandparents. She entered foster care in Galion at the age of 10 and was truly loved by her foster mom Diane for nearly 3 years. At the age of 13, Amber was adopted by Martha West in Columbus. She became part of another extended family that embraced her as their very own. As a girl she loved reading, hanging out with a large entourage of friends, singing, music, haunted houses, art and writing. She was always up for an adventure. As an adult, she continued to love all those things and extended her life to include taking care of others. Sometimes through professional work as a baker and cook, sometimes through dedicating her personal time to the care of others. Amber had an unerring ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. Family, friends, and others whose lives Amber touched are invited to the Ohio Cremation and Memorial Society, 5464 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43214 on Friday April 20th. Gathering time will be from 2-2:30pm followed by a time for shared remembrance at 2:30pm. In honor of the hippie that Amber was, the family requests the wearing of tie dyed shirts, old band tee shirts (maybe the Grateful Dead?), maxi skirts, peasant blouses, beads, bell bottoms, whatever you may have. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made toward funeral expenses at the time of service or by contacting Ohio Cremation & Memorial Society at 614-840-0900. Any excess donations will be given to Lutheran Social Services in Amber’s name. Please visit www.OhioCremation.org to leave the family an online condolence.
