Ann Calland

Ann Calland, “Granty A” to her dozens of nieces and nephews, passed away peacefully March 31. She was 83.

Ann, born Aug. 4, 1937, is preceded in death by her parents, Marie Mueller Calland and Albert M Calland; sisters Betty Jackson, Jean C. Neff, Dorothy M. Fraccaro and Meg Metts; brothers Robert M. Calland, Albert M. Calland Jr., Fredrick F. Calland, Edward B. Calland, Hugh Z. Calland, Richard H, Calland and William N. Calland.

She is survived by her sister Marti H. Calland of Chagrin Falls. Ann was involved in several ventures, many revolving around her love of quilts, and she curated a book of her brother Fred’s quilt designs, “Not Another Like It on the Block, Quilting from a Man’s Point of View.” She also was on the board of directors of the Quilter’s Hall of Fame in Marion, Ind.

Ann graduated from Columbus North High School and The Ohio State University. At North, she was the marching band’s Head Snare Drummer, and her on-point drum cadences directed the half-time show. Ann was always ready to drop everything when she heard any of her nieces or nephews say, “Annie, it’s time to play!”

  • Ginger Herrman Haack says:

I Was so sorry to read of Ann’s passing in this morning’s Dispatch. I was a good friend of Ann’s from High School Days. I played the snare drum with her in the North High School Marching Band. We lost track of each other for a number of years. At some point, about 10 years ago, when she lived on Morse Rd, we reconnected. At that time she joined the AAUW Choral Group and the North High Alumnae. I lost track of her again when she moved from the apartment on Morse Rd. I will miss her friendship.

  • Patricia Hajifotiou says:

  • Joe Haskett says:

Granty A! Whenever I’d arrive at our annual family reunion, I had to find you first! You always had the ‘stuff.’ The footballs, baseball bats, frisbees – you name – you had it. You were always so generous with your time and always up to play a game with all of your three thousand nieces and nephews. You kindness, your smile and your love will be missed. Say hello to everyone for us! Love you – Joe, Kirsten and Finn
