Archie Wilbur Lawyer, age 95, of Columbus; formerly of Madison, OH, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018. He was born in Perry Township, PA on January 18, 1923 to the late Clarence Eugene and Nancy Marie Voorhies Lawyer. On November 6, 1949, he married Helen Marie Woodward Lawyer in Ashtabula, OH and the two have shared 68 wonderful years together.
He served our country during WWII as a Quarter Master in the U.S. Navy.
Archie started his career as a Fireman and was quickly promoted to an Engineer, serving 44 years with NY Central, Penn Central and CONRail Railroads. He was also a 32nd Degree Master Mason and received his 70 year pin in January of 2014.
Preceded in death by sisters, Florence Burgett, Ruth Lawyer, Mary Fenton, Ida Unsinger and Martha Ruzga; half-sisters, Marion Weaver, Francis Heasley and Ethel Shaw; half-brothers, George Lawyer and Fred Lawyer.
Survived by loving wife, Helen Marie Lawyer; sisters, Dorothy Smith and Helen Bostaph; sister-in-law, Lea (Robert) Woodward; sons, David A. (Debra) Lawyer and Dennis R. (Charlotte) Lawyer; daughter, Doreen K. Lawyer; grandchildren, Tracy Lawyer, Erica (Brian) Lee, Kelly Lawyer, Tiffany Lawyer and Christopher Lawyer; 11 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Dorset Cemetery in Dorset Township in Ashtabula County, OH. A Memorial Service will be held from 10 am-11 am on Tuesday, Oct 16, 2018 at The Woodlands of Columbus, 5380 E Broad Street, Columbus OH 43213. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Archie’s name to: The VFW Color Guard, 3430 N Bank Road NE, Millersport, OH 43046.
