Barbara A. Weltlin


Barbara A. Weltlin, age 89, of Columbus, OH, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2019 at Abbington of Powell Assisted Living. She was born in Norwalk, OH on December 8, 1930 to the late Charles Hawley and Leona Sherwood-Hawley. Upon graduating from Norwalk High School in 1948, she embarked on her career path working for several dentists; including, Dr. Dobbs, Dr. Taylor and Dr. Makovic. She was a long time member of Norwalk United Methodist Church where she was active serving on various committees. After living in Norwalk for 80 years, she was able to help numerous organizations in her community, including the Age Exchange Program with school age children and The Red Cross. She was a member of Firelands Historical Society; Norwalk Historical Society Museum, Friends of the Norwalk Public Library, Towne and Country Players, Inc, Fisher Titus Medical Center Women’s Auxillary Board, Norwalk Garden Club, and Girl Scouts where she co-led troops with her friend Mary McClaflin. Barbara enjoyed baking, reading, counted cross stitching and time with many many special friends, lunches at Berry’s Restaurant in Norwalk with her classmates from NHS Class of 1948. She especially enjoyed the fall and Halloween season, including time with her most recent cat, Nikki Boo!

Once she moved to Columbus, she enjoyed time with friends and activities living at Seton Square North, including special family friend Kathy Willard-Brunell. She found joy and contentment in her community and friends all along her journey of life and for that, she is thankful. Preceded in death by her parents; sister, Gloria J. Taylor-Leslie and brother, US Air Force TSGT Jack A. Hawley. She is survived by her daughter, Laurie (Norm Mascher) Weltlin; granddaughter, Patti Maschner; great-granddaughter, Jaeleah Howard and her father, Joseph Howard; niece, Leslie Hawley-Neuberger of Norwalk, her children, Justin, Ryan, Alex, Kami and their families; niece, Judy Ferguson of Indianapolis, her daughter, Anne and children, Finn and Graham; nephew, Tom Taylor of Cleveland; sister-in-law, Shirley Doughty Norwak; former husband and daughter’s father, Donald (Jan) Weltlin. The family would like to thank COPC, Dr. Lisa Mewhort and Nurse Care Coordinator, Jeanene Goodman; OhioHealth Cardiologist, Dr. Jordan and staff, OhioHealth Home Care Nurse, Chris Shaner, Mark Linser of Senior Options, Abbington of Powell, Katie Taylor and staff, as well as the staff of Capital City Hospice. In keeping with her wishes, cremation will take place and a Celebration of her Life will take place in the spring of 2020 in her hometown of Norwalk, OH. Inurnment Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Norwalk United Methodist Church or to donor’s choice of Animal Rescue or Shelter.
