Bernice Rosalie Sucher

Her children sadly announce the passing of Bernice Rosalie (Girardot) Sucher, 94, following a series of illness on Sunday, June 14, 2020 at her home in Westerville, Ohio. Known to family and friends as Bea, she was born on November 29, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan to Lawrence and Mable (Lane) Girardot.

Bea grew up in the Detroit area with her 4 brothers and sister. She graduated from Pershing High School in Detroit in 1943. After high school upon securing her first job she went home to share the news with her father.  He declared, “You better make sure that salary is right because no company is going to pay a young kid that much.” Luckily, she was right.  Later, Bea worked for Burley-Stocker as a stenographer where she met her lifelong friend Audrey (Kuffert) Adams.  While raising her family, she continued to work and ultimately retired as the Business Manager for Dr. C.J. Lavielle, Radiologist in Flint, Michigan.

Bea met Lewis R. (Ray) Sucher through her friend, Audrey and they were married in 1946 in Dearborn, Michigan. They shared 57 years together and parented three children while living in Michigan and Ohio. After retirement, they enjoyed 16 years in Brandon, Florida.

Bea relished her time with her family and friends.  She was an avid reader, a fierce Scrabble competitor, amazing cook, gifted seamstress and colorful story teller who was always at the center of any gathering.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister Joyce; brothers Elwyn, Robert, John and Kenneth; son-in-law Joseph (Michelle) Safirstein; sister-in-law Nell (Robert) Girardot and nephews James Girardot and David Girardot.

She will be greatly missed by children: Sherry (Joseph) Ruby; Michelle (Joseph) Safirstein; and Kevin Sucher.  Grandchildren:  Joelle Molino and Nicole (Timothy) Vickers-Blasczyk and Greatgrandchildren:  Maria Molino; Olivia Molino; Julia Molino and Joshua Vickers; Sisters-in-law Beverly (John) Girardot and Evelyn (Kenneth) Girardot, nieces and nephews and innumerable friends.

A private dual interment will follow at Great Lakes National Veterans Cemetery, Holly, Michigan.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Capital City Hospice, Columbus, Ohio or the charity of your choice.  Please visit to leave the family an online condolence.

Bea & I became good friends at the Westerville Sr. Ctr
We both loved Scrabble & enjoyed playing each week. Later on we started having lunch together at MCL in Westerville. We really enjoyed each others company & I will always remember the good times we had together.
    Sincerely, Betty

I’m so sorry to hear about Bea. I met Bea working at the Longway Office in Flint Mich. She was always a sharp dresser that was when double knit fabric came out. She helped me learn to sew and I have made most of my clothes ever since. When my son, Mike, got out of the Marines, married and moved to Tampa, Fla. she would drive up and we would spend the day together it was always like we had just seen each other the day before, My grandchildren always ask if I have heard from Bea I will let them know.
Thank you for letting me know. love Pete Brust
