Catherine Cope

Catherine J. Cope, age 86, of Upper Arlington, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017 at her home surrounded by loving family. She was born on September 13, 1931 in New Philadelphia, OH to the late Dorian and Elizabeth Smith. She grew up in New Philadelphia and was a 1949 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. She retired as secretary from the Upper Arlington Schools in1999. She was a long time member of Boulevard Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and was active with the Presbyterian’s Women’s Group. She was a member of the New Philadelphia Eastern Star, Chapter 222 for more than 50 years. In recent years she enjoyed playing the dulcimer and was active with the Tri-Village Dulcimers, a group that she truly treasured.


Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Bob; parents, Elizabeth and Dorian Smith; sister Annabelle Hart Baughman; and nephew, Daniel D. Hart. Cathie will be dearly missed by those who survive her, nephew, William (Rita) Hart of Maryland; sister-in-law, Barbara Kelly of Texas; nephew, Mark (Pat) Haverfield of Florida; niece, Judy Eubanks of Missouri; along with great nieces, nephews and a host of loving friends.


Anyone wishing to make a contribution in Cathie’s memory can do so to the Boulevard Presbyterian Church, 1235 Northwest Blvd. Columbus, OH 43212. A memorial service is planned for Monday, November 13th at 11am at the Boulevard Presbyterian Church in Grandview Heights. There will be a family graveside service at a later date.

    I was a high school graduate and friend and had called her and she told me of her condition and I was so sorry to hear it. I offer my sympathy to the family and pray for God’s peace at this time of sorrow. She was a wonderful person and enjoyed life.

    My sincere condolences. I have known Cathy and Bob since 1968, and were both wonderful people. I last talked to Cathy in June, she was a wonderful person. I am most pleased that I was able to assist them with filing their income taxes since 1969, and assist with financial decisions. cathu was a wonderful person. My prayers are with you.
