Claude R. Thornton, age 79, passed away at Mt. Carmel East Hospital on May 10, 2017 after a short illness.  He was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 12, 1938 to the late Jessie Stokes and James Thornton.  Claude was married September 3, 1988 to Sandra Jones Thornton at the Oakley Baptist Church where he was baptized on October 16, 1988.  He is preceded in death by parents, Jessie Stokes and James Thornton; daughter, Alesha Ghee; grandson, Damiko Russell; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Nancy and Cecil Jones; and grandmother, Lilia Marshall.  Claude is survived by his wife, Sandra Thornton; daughter, Wavvette (Vince) Duncan; sons, Dennis (Anita) Cooper and Jermaine Thornton; brother-in-law, Samuel Jones; son-in-law, Julius Ghee; grandchildren, Desmond Cooper, Dennis Cooper, Jr., Marquita Mitchell, Chanelle Redmon, DeJa Redman, Paige Willis, Jordan Willis, Tylar Willis and Jessica Ghee; 9 Great-Grandchildren; cousins, John (Diane) Brown, Leon Branch, Rosa Waites and Lelia Brown (Cephus) Clark; and many other cousins and friends.  Claude lived his days in Brooklyn, N.Y. and Columbus, OH.  He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.  He was known for his wonderful sense of humor and his distinctive mustache.  Claude loved watching sports and playing the lottery.  He is loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.  The family would like to extend a special thank you to all who have called, visited and for your prayers.
