Hannah Paige Bates

Hannah Paige Bates, 13 days, passed peacefully from her parents’ arms into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Hannah was born February 18 at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. She suffered numerous health complications as a result of trisomy 21 (Down syndrome). Nevertheless, Hannah, with her sweet face, blinking eyes, and full head of hair, brought great joy to her family during her brief time on earth. She was lovingly prayed for by many; these prayers were answered as Hannah was made whole in the presence of the Lord.
Hannah is survived by her parents, Matthew and Sarah Bates of Kansas City, Missouri; sister, Claire Bates; brothers, Seth, Zane, and Silas Bates; maternal grandparents, Richard and Debra Edelmaier of Garland, Nebraska; paternal grandparents, David and Vicki Bates of Yakima, Washington; great-grandfather, John Edelmaier of Lincoln, Nebraska; aunt, Heather Ekland (Arthur) of Yelm, Washington; uncles, Adam Bates of Lompoc, California, and Ian Edelmaier of Lincoln, Nebraska; and cousins, Devin, Alexis, Ashlynn, and Elijah Ekland.
A memorial service will be held at Northwest Community Church in Malcolm, Nebraska, on Saturday, April 24, 2021, at 2:00 p.m., with a reception to follow. Reverend Paul Carpenter of Jansen Bible Church, Jansen, Nebraska, will officiate. A private burial will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be designated to the Hannah Paige Bates Memorial Fund and sent to Biblical Ministries Worldwide, 1595 Herrington Road, Lawrenceville, Georgia 30043, or contributed online at This fund has been established to help the family with burial costs. Any surplus will be donated in Hannah’s name to Special Friends Ministry in Kodiak, Alaska, which serves young men and women who have special needs.
Hannah’s family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Nationwide Children’s Hospital for their excellence in care for Hannah, and for their outstanding support for the whole family through this difficult time.
“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God.  Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.” -Jesus Christ (Luke 12:6-7)

  • The Moore Family says:

Dear Bates family, our hearts have been with you as you brought Hannah into the world and said your goodbyes.
Here in England we have been praying as a family and also our church.
We can’t imagine the heartache and strain that your whole family must be feeling, you have so many burdens to deal with and we know that the Lord is carrying you through this time in your families lives.
We look forward to you getting home and being able to see you in person. Your testimony during this time in trusting God is a wonderful blessing to us.
