Helen Marie Lawyer

Helen Marie Lawyer, age 92, of Columbus, OH (previously Madison, OH), passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Woodlands of Columbus Assisted Living. She was born in Buffalo, NY on August 14, 1926 to the late Robert A. and Carrie (Dickinson) Woodward. On November 6, 1949, she married Archie Wilbur Lawyer in Ashtabula, OH. The two shared 68 wonderful years together.

She was an Elementary School Teacher at Lincoln and Grant Elementary Schools in the Willoughby/Eastlake School System. She previously worked as a substitute teacher and taught in a reading program while taking college classes. She graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education from Lake Erie College. Prior to getting married and raising her family, she was employed with Woolworth and Carlisle Department Stores. She loved singing, playing the piano, reading, knitting, gardening, bowling and baking for family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Archie W. Lawyer; brother, Robert A. Woodward; sister, Mary Lou Reames and granddaughter, Amanda Lawyer. Survived by sons, David A. (Debra) Lawyer and Dennis R. (Charlotte) Lawyer; daughter, Doreen K. Lawyer; grandchildren, Tracy Lawyer, Erica (Brian) Lee, Kelly Lawyer, Tiffany Lawyer and Christopher Lawyer; 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will take place at 11:00 am on Friday, February 8, 2019 at Dorset  Township Cemetery, 3413 Marrian Rd, Dorset, OH 44032.  In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Capital City Hospice, 2800 Corporate Exchange Dr. Suite 170, Columbus, OH 43231.
