Jon Michael “Mike” Strohmenger, age 54, of Sullivan passed away Saturday morning, August 10, 2019, at home surrounded by his family. Mike was born January 2, 1965, in Columbus, Ohio, to John William and Norma Jean (Wentzel) Strohmenger.
Mike worked for 16 years at Berardi+Partners, Inc. in Columbus as the IT manager and a project leader. He also served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Phoenix and USS Scranton. Mike loved technology, from building computers to keeping up with the latest gadgets, and enjoyed listening to music and watching movies. Mike’s true passion outside of work was bike riding which led him to the Pelotonia, an annual event dedicated to finding a cure for cancer in which 100% of the money raised goes directly to cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute. Mike completed the 100-mile ride in both 2015 and 2016, not knowing he would be battling his own cancer in 2017. He was to ride again this year as a survivor; however, with the return of cancer this year and subsequent death, Mike will be a virtual rider, still giving to the cause and even donating his eyes upon his death to cancer research at The James.
Mike is survived by his wife of 8 years, Mary Melinda Weber; two sons, Darrell Strohmenger of Columbus and Jacob Weber at home; his father and stepmother, John (Linda) Strohmenger of Seven Pines, NC; his siblings, David Dalton of Clarksville, TN, Maria (Mark) Gagnon of Augusta, GA, and Greg (Penny) Strohmenger of Chambersburg, PA, as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his mother Norma (Wentzel) Strohmenger.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM Thursday, August 22, 2019, at Ohio Cremation & Memorial Society, 9 Chambers Road, Mansfield, OH 44906. Calling hours will be Thursday from 10:30-11:30 AM. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, OH at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Mike’s virtual ride in the Pelotonia by visiting https://pelotonia.org/js0495 or to LifeCare Hospice, 1900 Akron Road, Wooster, OH 44691.
