Joyce Evelyn Pombert

Joyce Evelyn Pombert, age 77, of Pickerington, Ohio died January 29, 2020 in her home surrounded by her family following a very long battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.  On February 8, 1942, she was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late George and Evelyn (Gregory) Brophy.  She married Jack Pombert on July 23, 1960 at St. Sabina Catholic Church in Chicago, IL.  Together they shared 51 years of marriage.  Joyce is survived by her son, Jeff Pombert; daughter, Jane Groves; grandchildren, Jessie Groves, Cole Pombert, and J.J. Groves; brother, George (Katie) Brophy; and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Jack Pombert; and her sister, Pat Brown.  Joyce worked as an HR recruiter for PNC for more than 20 years.  After retirement, she worked at Compassionate Care Animal Hospital as a receptionist which she truly loved.  Joyce was a member of Prince of Peace Presbyterian Church in Pickerington where she served as a Deacon and considered that role a special blessing in her life.  Joyce was born in Chicago, Illinois and lived there until she married Jack.  Together they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and then moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1972 and from there to Pickerington, Ohio in 1980.  Joyce enjoyed playing slots at the casino, spending time with friends and her grandchildren, and sitting on her front porch talking with her best friends.  Joyce’s proudest achievements were her two children, Jeff & Jane; her three grandchildren, Jessica, Cole, and J.J.; the Excel Award in 2003 for Outstanding Customer Service from National City Bank, the TopGun Award in 2006 for highest recruiting scores, the Recruiter Award in 2007 for best customer service, and a 19 year volunteer at Muirfield Memorial Golf Tournament, as well as, multiple golf tournament committees.  Joyce had the gift of making everybody she met feel like family.  She was brave and strong.  Her smile is unforgettable and lit up every room she walked into.  Joyce loved her family fiercely and unconditionally.  Joyce’s family would like to extend a special thank you to all of her amazing family and friends for the love, care, support & friendship they provided to Joyce, and to all of her caregivers and hospice caregivers.  A service will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 1:00 pm at Prince of Peace Presbyterian Church, 895 Old Diley Road, Pickerington, Ohio 43147 with a lunch & gathering immediately following the service.  Any friends and family are welcome to join the celebration of Joyce’s life.  Joyce will be buried with her true love in Illinois at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in honor of Joyce to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation at and/or to Prince of Peace Presbyterian Church, c/o Prince of Peace, 895 Old Diley Road, Pickerington, Ohio 43147 with a note that the donation is in memory of Joyce. We loved them both and will now miss Joyce as well as Jack, but we know they are together again. May God grant you His peace that passes all understanding at this difficult time.
