She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry K. Bjorkman (2016); and her brother, Gary A. Schuetz (2017).
Martha, known affectionately as Marty, is survived by her three children, Lisa (Zahid) Afzal, of Westerville, OH, Forrest (Gail) Browne III, of Springfield, VA and Beneth Browne, of Los Angeles, CA. Martha was also blessed with six grandchildren, Cameron, Shawn, Forrest, Colin, Holden, and Ellie. She is also survived by her brother, Ralph (Nancy) Schuetz, of Springfield, VA; as well as three loving nieces.
Martha was born in Evanston, IL, where she excelled academically and became an accomplished cellist, a talent she continued to enjoy in later life. She was Editor-in-Chief for the Evanston Township High School yearbook, the “Key”, before becoming a journalism major at the University of Missouri. Martha remained committed to her college sorority, Delta Gamma. After marrying shortly after college graduation, Marty moved to Philadelphia, PA, with her first husband, Forrest R. Browne, Jr., and had her first child before relocating to St. Clair Shores, MI. Except for a brief interruption in Greensboro, NC, Marty remained in the Detroit suburbs (living in Grosse Pointe, Birmingham, Troy, and Bloomfield Hills), where she worked as a paralegal and volunteered for the Assistance League of Southeastern Michigan.
She was a devoted member of the Congregational Church of Birmingham, United Church of Christ for more than 35 years. In 2016, shortly after the death of her second husband, Harry, she moved to Worthington, OH, to be closer to her daughter and family. Marty will be remembered by her family and friends for her kind heart, her love of family, and her passion for bridge…a game she picked up at an early age and played voraciously until the passing of her “partner”, Harry.
Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Congregational Church of Birmingham, United Church of Christ, 1000 Cranbrook Rd., Bloomfield Hills, MI 48304.
