Mary Ann Harrah

Mary “Cookie” Bell Harrah, age 68, of Columbus, Ohio passed away Monday, December 9, 2019 at her home unexpectedly.  She was born on December 23, 1950 in Beckley, West Virginia to her parents, Lloyd Ellison and Mary Bell Ellison.  On April 8, 1968, she married her loving husband of 41 years, Larry Harrah, Sr. in Mount Hope, West Virginia.  Cookie loved to sing.  Her favorite hobby was to sing karaoke, particularly at Stygie’s, Hot Spot, and The Eagles.  She also enjoyed playing pool and was a member of APA Pool League in Gahanna, Ohio.  Cookie was also a tried and true OSU fan. She watched with pure enthusiasm every Saturday, no matter the ranking or opponent. “Go Bucks”!  Although she had many hobbies, what she loved most was being a mother and a Maw Maw.  It was her proudest accomplishment.  Cookie loved with her whole heart and was always there with a hug, kiss, and an “I love you.”  She is survived by her daughters, Tina (Jim) Harrah-Taylor and Mandy (Jacob) Harrah-Gardner; grandchildren, Mikey Beam, Rylie Taylor, Kaia Thomas, Aaron Thomas, and Emmett Gardner; sister, Donna (Bob) Dorado; brother, Charles (Merinda) Ellison; aunts, Madge Snodgrass, Margaret Newman, Erma Vest, and June Ballard; cousin, Janie Lilly Gunther; and sisters in law, Katie Harrah, and Janet (Henry) Rife.  In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 41 years, Larry, Sr.; beloved son “her sonshine” Larry, Jr. aka, Boogie; brothers, Lloyd Ellison, Jr., Donald Ellison, Gary Ellison, and Larry Ellison; sister, Alma Jean Bell; aunts, Betty Ballard, Doris Wyatt, and Evelyn Lilly; and uncles, Donald Bell, George Bell, Jim Bell, Alfred Bell, and Roger Ballard.  The family would like to recognize Larry Peterman for all of his love and companionship for the last few years.  We truly appreciate that you were in her life and all that you did for her. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all those who have reached out to pay condolences and contribute help during this difficult time. Her loving family shares “We will miss our nightly phone calls and check-ins to ensure all our doors are locked and to say good night. She will be terribly missed forever”. In her own comforting words..”Maw Maw Loves…..You”!

A Memorial will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2019 from 11 AM-1 PM at Ohio Cremation & Memorial Society, 5464 N. High St. Columbus, OH 43214. In lieu of flowers; memorial contributions may be made to her GoFundMe-Paying Tribute to – Mary “Cookie” Bell-Harrah to help her family offset expenses.
