Nathan Alexander Vokac

Nathan Alexander Vokac, age 19, of Columbus, Ohio passed away on March 22, 2021. He was born at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio on March 28, 2001. Nathan is survived by his father, Rik Vokac; mother, T.J. Vokac; sister, Valerie Richards; brother, Connor Vokac; brother-in-law, Cory Richards; nephews, Corbin Issac Richards and Jonah Alexander Richards; the love of his life, Avery Jacoby; and best friend, Max his dog. He is preceded in death by his Grandpa and Grandma Vokac; and Aunt Dawn Vokac.

Nathan grew up in Vineyard Community Church where he gave his life to Jesus. He also grew in his faith at Heritage Christian Church where he met some of his closest friends. He has spent time at One Church in Gahanna but was currently tied into Five14 calling it his home church and getting involved in ministries there. Nathan pursued purity with his Brothers in Christ and strived to be a man of God everyday. Nathan has worked at Roush Honda and spent one year at Lindsay Honda which he enjoyed and after completing Diesel Mechanic School, Nathan chose to work at Tiltons Automotive Service in Columbus. Nathan really enjoyed life, some of his many hobbies included the DiYanni brothers teaching him to deer hunt, fishing with Victor, skateboarding with Alex, Lucas, and Will, hammocking with everyone, modifying his Duramax diesel truck, ATV-4-wheeling at the lodge and Tecumseh trails with his dad, brother, Cory, and Brian Frye, hanging in the hot tub with everyone, snowboarding especially with Tasha and Tira which made him impressed, motorcycling with his family, Dalton, Brian Schweir, bowling, video gaming with whoever was online, volleyball, soccer, and hanging with his dog Max. Some of Nathan’s achievements were becoming an Eagle Scout with Troop 474, excelling in his education in Diesel Mechanics, and being an excellent son, brother, uncle, friend, and follower of Christ. Some of Nathan’s unique attributes were his great love for his family, his generous heart, always helping others in need, his love for others, his love for his nephew Corbin, his love for his friends and the blessing of finding his soulmate, Avery.

A visitation will take place Monday, March 29, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. and Tuesday, March 30, 2021 from 10:00-11:00 A.M. with a celebration of life service starting at 11:00 A.M. all services will be at Five14 Church, 5744 N. Hamilton Road, Columbus, Ohio 43230.

  • Matt Sides says:

To the Vokac family and all his friends, my deepest condolences go out to all of you. I worked with Nate at Tiltons, and even with it being only half a year, I definitely was blessed by it. We found comradery in each others personal relationship with Christ, and that helped both of us settle in at Tiltons because we started around the same time. We had countless great discussions about the pro-life movement, discipleship, Christian music, marriage and fatherhood (the latter being his excitement looking towards the future). He was a really great person, a great light for Christ. I pray God gives you his peace that surpasses understanding, and a grace that is sufficient for each day for all of you as you grieve this loss. Nate and I used to love discussing whose favorite Bible verse was better, and while I wasn’t as steadfast in my verse to tattoo it on me haha, I think it is timely and applicable here. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you a hope and future”. God bless, and once again, I am so sorry for your loss.

  • Joshua M Roman says:

    Rick TJ and family,
I often wonder why things like this happen. I have never found the answer and my heart is broken for you as I too have lost close family members. I can honestly say I had not faced that sorrow until hearing about Nathan. Many years have passed since my loved one has went to be with Christ as we know Nathan has and I am just coming to face the reality of losing my own brother. It has been over 20 years and I had not shed one tear through the years and now I’m balling like a baby. I’m so sorry for you I wish that helped. I can honestly say only faith, belief and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ will ever help you make your way. It is simply to draw us closer to him he loves us so much as you love Nathan and in some strange way maybe we can understand his love for us through Nathan’s lose. I hope that’s not offensive. I wish the pain sorrow and happiness that are expressed now in my heart could be expressed in words, they cannot. Please don’t lose the faith as I had. it’s going to be hard at times it’s going to be really hard and I love you guys so much, you’ve helped me so much and even though nobody else on this thread might know who I am you guys do tj, Rick I know how much you loved your family man you told me everyday, your like a second dad Rik, you showed me how to love my own children and what a loving father really is. I just wish I could do something I’m so sorry guys…Rik TJ thanks for everything.

  • Michael and Shereda Buckingham says:

    Rik and T.J.
We have no words. You are living a parents nightmare and we know there are no answers to the “why”. However, in reading this beautiful story about this young man, Nathan, we all know that we mourn with the blessed assurance that we have HOPE in Jesus.

As parents we know in our minds that no matter the amount of time, they are ours for such a short time. Look at what a magnificent son you have! You didn’t waste a moment of that time raising him. It isn’t easy these days to raise a young man. I thank God for the seeds Nathan planted.

I know you want him here and the grief is real. God is close to the brokenhearted. He whispers his Love and peace into the dark places. Climb in the cleft of His and and rest there.

We love you, our dear “old” friends. We are praying for you and please reach out if you need a friend. We are here.

    Love you,
    The Buckingham Family
