Paul Roy Steele


Paul Roy Steele, age 73, of Commercial Point, OH passed away at his residence after a long fought illness on September 3, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 22, 1944 in Lake Forest, IL to the late Stuart and Evelyn Elaine Hilbourn Steele. His brother Jack Steele also precedes him in death. Paul married Rebecca Jane Moyer on December 1, 1973 in Wadsworth, OH. They shared 43 wonderful years together. He is survived by loving wife, Rebecca; son, Joshua Steele; daughter, Chava Steele; grandchildren, Devin Vannatter, Dylan Steele-Lauhun, Stephanie Vannatter, Latasha Vanatter; nephews, Stephen, Robert and David; niece, Lupe; as well as extended relatives and a host of friends. Paul retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service and two tours in Vietnam. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Grove City where he served as past deacon; member of Boy Scout Troop 136, past Round Table Commissioner; member of VFW Post 11208 where he served as past chaplain; member and past president of the Amateur Wine Makers Guild of Central Ohio. He enjoyed camping, knot tying and reading in his spare time. Paul saw many accomplishments throughout his life, but the one he was most proud of was serving as deacon of the church;receiving the District Award of Merit from Ohio Valley BSA as well as doing Blackfoot training. Paul was a beloved family man and a hero to our nation. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A Memorial Service will be held to honor his life at 4:30 PM on September 17, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church, 4227 Broadway, Grove City, OH 43123. Food and Fellowship will follow the services. Paul will be laid to rest at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, OH with Military Honors graveside.     Thank you for inviting me to the burial service at the National Cemetery. It was an honor for me to be there with all of you. Paul was a kind and generous man. I remember the good times sharing meals at your house and Thanksgivings in Logan. I am so glad I got to see Paul that last Friday. He had such a sense of peace about him. We talked about God and the pride he had in Beckie’s work on the Wood Badge. I will miss him. Hugs to all.
