Raymond Leon Burge, age 73, of Columbus, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born in Columbus on September 13, 1945, son of the late Wilmer Eleanor Joyce and David Burge Jr. Raymond later married Carolyn Ann Henderson. He worked many jobs throughout his life, but was most well-known for his musical talent, especially playing the harmonica. He was known as “Mr. Blues”, due to his smooth, soulful style. He loved to cook and was known for his unique culinary skills. He also enjoyed collecting knives, listening to music, playing instruments, watching westerns and movies. He was crafty and talented in many areas. First and foremost, he was a family man. He loved nothing more than to get dressed up and hang with friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilmer Eleanor Joyce and David Burge Jr.; brother, Ronnie Brown-Burge; and grandmother, Elder Louise Wright.
Survived by daughter, Stephanie “Burge” Nelms; son, Christopher (Shanta) Burge; step-son, Timothy Burge; step-daughter, Bianca Burge; brother, William (Gloria) Burge; sisters, Gwendolyn Streaty and Saundra Gordon; long-time caregiver, Treda (Diana); a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His family would like to extend a special thank you to all his care providers, Gerri (deceased 2019), Monie, Miss Wendy, Nurse Ibraham (Tina), and especially long-time friend, Trida (Diana). In keeping with his wishes, cremation will take place with no formal services planned at this time.
