Rudolph F. Saliwanchik, age 94, of Worthington, Ohio died April 8, 2020 of natural causes at The Bickford of Worthington in Ohio . On April 9, 1925, he was born in Michigan City, Indiana, the son of the late John and Mary (Kuta) Saliwanchik. He married Mary Lynnette Davis on June 18, 1949 in the St. Mary Cathedral in Lafayette, Indiana. Together they shared 53 years.
Rudy is survived by his children, Victoria (Don) Desutter, John (Cindy) Saliwanchik, Tom (Mary Anne) Saliwanchik, Mary (Spencer) Dunn and Paul (Bobbi) Saliwanchik; brother, John Saliwanchik of LaPorte, Indiana; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lynne; two brothers, Roman and Richard; and sister, Dorothy.
Rudy grew up in LaPorte, Indiana. He served in WWII in the Army Air Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant and became a 1035 bombardier where he flew in the B25 bomber. Rudy graduated from Purdue University in 1949 with an Electrical Engineering Degree. His first job out of college was with Honeywell where he worked for 37 years. Rudy was also active in St. Francis Xavier Parish in Wilmette, Illinois. Some of his proudest achievements were serving in the Army Air Corps in WWII, designing the heating and cooling systems of the John Hancock Building and Sears (Willis) Tower of Chicago, almost bowling a 300 game!!, and his loving family.
Rudy enjoyed daily exercise, reading, bowling, golf, music, Chicago Sports Teams and nurturing tropical plants. He lived on his own until age 90 and was fiercely independent. Rudy’s family is thankful for him and the comfortable life he provided for his children.
A service will be held Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church in Wilmette, Illinois with an inurnment to follow at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, Illinois. Please visit www.OhioCremation.org to leave an online condolence.
